Lockettutorial-1

Gather your tools and materials. We'll be using the marbled recycled paper (the thinner/lighter paper) for this project. If you haven't already marbled your paper start HERE first.

Lockettutorial-2

Trace one side of the locket on a piece of scrap paper. Fold the paper in half and cut the shape out with scissors.

Lockettutorial-3

Grab the piece of marbled paper and use the hole as a way to find the perfect spot you would like on your locket. Trace the oval if you've cut it out really well or set your locket back down and trace it in the same spot.

Lockettutorial-4

Cut around your line and make sure it fits the locket shape before moving onto the next step.

Lockettutorial-5

Put just a drop of glue in a cup and add a little bit of water. We want to dilute the glue slightly so it's not as thick.

Lockettutorial-6

Stir it with a toothpick and apply some with your finger to one side of the locket covering the whole top surface.

Lockettutorial-7

Place your paper on top of the glue and center it. Press down all the edges starting at the center. You can add a little glue on top if you need more help smoothing out any bubbles. Don't push too hard or the paper might rip. Smooth out all the edges and any creases until you have a smooth surface covering the locket.

Lockettutorial-8

Set aside to dry.

Lockettutorial-9

Open the small jump ring with jewelry pliers. To open twist north to south and not east to west. This will help keep the round shape.

Lockettutorial-10

Put the jump ring through the top loop on the locket. Close tightly.

Lockettutorial-11

Thread the ball chain through the jump ring.

Lockettutorial-12

Add the closure to the ends by snapping the chain into the grooves on both sides.

Lockettutorial-13

For a shiny sealant you can apply a coat of clear nail polish to the paper. Make sure not to get nail polish in the hinge. Let it dry. You can also apply another top coat of glue which will give it a matte finish.

Lockettutorial-16

We are putting a picture of a tiny cat in our locket. Because, why not? Grab a picture of a loved one and cut an oval the size of the depression in the center of the locket. Add some glue and place the picture inside.

V-lookbook19

You can cover both sides with marbled paper or paint one side with a colored nail polish! This way you can wear it on either side depending on your outfit. Remember to use #makertakes to share your creations.
