Making my own napkins had been a long time goal of mine, considering I had bought cotton cloth from IKEA months ago only to be discovered again this month as it’s turn approached. Spring is coming on us and I wanted to take this opportunity to take a jump ahead of time. Leaving behind the winter hues to a more livid and fun filled patterns that are so easy to make. Bust of color onto one of the sides and some modern pattern on the other end, these colorful pattern napkins are just the right ones you need to make your transition smooth. As your mood prevails you can choose either of the side for your use.
Isn’t it fantastic to have things under your control and mood. I don’t long for floral napkins ( not very good and patient with drawing flowers ) now that I have these. Not to mention, I had a plan to make only pattern napkin but I couldn’t go ahead because I wasn’t 100% sure ( welcome to the real life of a creative blogger, wherein you’ve 100 ways of doing one thing and you can’t point a finger on one, some times you might have to force yourself to choose ) I am so glad and relieved that I made them.
+ 4 White cotton napkins ( I hemmed my own napkins with lenda cloth from IKEA )
+ Fabric/Acrylic paints of your choice
+ Foam Brush
+ Brush
+ Masking Tape
1. I mixed 1 part of white with 1 part of violet and similarly with crimson, chrome yellow and orange so as to ascertain the pastel shades that you see ( you can increase the portion of white paint for an even more lighter color ). Part your napkins and apply a strip of masking tape to secure the other side from being colored. Let your first coat dry and then go ahead and apply another coat to cover areas not well received to make them even.
2. You may remove your masking tape after the napkins has dried, and draw these easy patterns like so. For the last napkin I placed my napkin over a big cardboard piece to speckle so to avoid getting everywhere speckled.
3. After 24 hours of the application of our paints we need to iron our napkins on the other side ( beware don’t set your iron directly onto the painted surface ). You can wash them 3 days later or simply go by the instructions of your paint.
I particularly enjoyed styling this shoot, few hours in and I couldn’t stop myself from taking pictures from all the angles possible. Do make yourself some delicious pancake and enjoy your time without any worry with these beautiful napkins by your plate.
Until next time, Happy weekend:)
