Finding the perfect lighting fixture for a room can be tough. Take matters into your own hands by crafting one yourself! Use spare fabric from curtains or find a design you love to spruce up a plain white drum shade. This easy DIY project is fun to make and even better for your wallet. Get started this weekend with our step-by-step instructions.

What You Need

  • Large pendant drum shade
  • Pendant light kit
  • 1 to 1-1/2 yards fabric
  • Scissors
  • Decoupage medium
  • Foam brush
  • Small bowl
  • Bias tape
  • Fabric glue

Note: We used Fall Flower Watercolor Bouquet by craftberrybush and Portadown Watercolor Floral by angiemakes, both printed by Spoonflower.

Step 2: Adhere Fabric

Once you have your placement set, dip foam brush into bowl with decoupage medium and apply to back of fabric. Flip fabric on the drum shade, and then lightly coat with another layer of decoupage medium. Repeat until drum shade is covered with desired amount of fabric. Let dry.

Tip: Use a flat decoupage medium (avoid one with a sheen).
